The White House is the most popular attraction in Washington, DC — and now home to President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, their daughters, Malia and Sasha... and Marian Robinson (Michelle's mom).

The White House
One of the most popular tourist attractions in the nation, the White House is considered by many to be the most important building the Washington, DC.

The White House has 132 rooms on six levels, The presidential mansion has 412 doors, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases and three elevators.

Select rooms are open to the public. These include the East Room, Green Room, Blue Room Red, Room, The State Dining Room...and more.

East Room
The East Room is used for receptions, ceremonies and Presidential news conferences.

Green Room
The Green Room is used for informal receptions and photo opportunities with Foreign Heads of State.

Blue Room
The Blue Room is the most formal room and the one in which the White House Christmas Tree is placed each year.

Red Room
The Red Room is a favorite among the First Ladies.



The State Dining Room
The State Dining Room seats up to 140 guests and is used for formal dinners.


The White House Visitor Center
Stop by the White House Visitor Center either before or after your Tour of The White House. Allow approx. 20 minutes to one hour to explore all the exhibits.

The center is located at the southeast corner of 15th & E Streets.

White House's Touch of Ireland
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the water in the fountains of the North and South Lawns of the White House were dyed green. Michelle Obama started this tradition on March 17, 2009.

"Organic" Vegetable Garden
at the White House

On March 20, 2009, Michelle Obama broke ground on the South Lawn at the White House to plant a vegetable garden — the first at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden in World War II.

White House Public Tours

Self-Guided Public Tours of the White House are available for Groups of 10 or more people.

Requests must be submitted through your Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance.

Tours are Free.

Hours
Tues-Sat 7:30am-12:30pm. (excluding federal holidays).

Tours are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, approximately one month in advance of the requested date.

Note: Limited number of Tours are available, so be sure to submit your request as early as possible.
