Antoni Gaudi's "Must-See"
Architecture & Attractions
Antoni Gaudi is Barcelona's
most internationally renowned architect. It's worth a visit to the
city just to see his unique "masterpieces" - including
the following architectural wonders:
Casa Batllo
Casa Milà or La Pedrera
Parc Guell
Sagrada Familia
Casa Batlló
Elaborately decorated with a mosaic of broken ceramic tiles and featuring
a gigantic arched dragon-like roof (top photo), this Gaudi "masterpiece" is
one of Barcelona's top attractions — and one of its most photographed
buildings.
Because of Casa Batlló's unique
look, locals refer to the building as Casa dels
Ossos (House
of Bones)
or Casa
del Drac (House of the Dragon). At night, it's well worth a
visit to see its floodlit facade.
Open daily, except for Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Parc Guell
Whimsical, Magical, Bizarre — just a few words that some people have used
to describe Parc Guell. It's a great place hang out and people-watch.

Designed
by Antoni Gaudi, the park features unique stone structures, brightly-colored
tiles, beautiful mosaic designs almost everywhere... and lush landscaping. Gaudi's famous
multi-colored mosaic dragon stands in between the double stairway (pictured
below).

Visit Gaudi's old home — it's now a museum
in the park. For really great views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean, go
to the upper terrace level — you can see for miles!

Sagrada Familia
Barcelona's Top Attraction
Sagrada Familia is Barcelona's top tourist
attraction. Gaudi's unfinished masterpiece (construction
began in 1882 and it continues today) is Barcelona's most famous
architectural landmark.
As spectacular as it looks during the
day, it's even more stunning at night.
The cathedral, a symbol of Barcelona the
world over, draws millions of visitors from around the globe every
year.
At
first glance, the towering temple looks similar to an intricate
giant sandcastle (see photos above and below) — what do you
think?

Casa
Milà or
La
Pedrera
(Passeig de Gracia)
Casa
Milà (or Milà House) is also known as La Pedrera. The
sculptured architecture is one of Gaudí's most
famous residential buildings — and one of Barcelona's top attractions.
Interpretations of the building vary — some
say its natural stone facade looks like a series of caves.
Others see it as "waves
of the sea" and
"foam of the waves." Doors and windows look like
they were dug out of sand — and surrealistic chimneys dominate
the rooftop. Get your camera ready!
