Duke’s is a must-see if you’re in Malibu. The popular restaurant, bar, and outdoor deck areas feature over 300 feet of picture windows, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  You sure can’t beat the views – and the food is pretty terrific too!

We enjoyed an incredible lunch at Duke’s oceanfront restaurant after visiting the nearby Getty Villa. We were seated at a window table and could have stayed there all day just looking out at the ocean and passing boats.

Many of you may already be familiar with many of Duke’s restaurants in Hawaii (we have fond memories of Duke’s Beach House in Ka’anapali, Maui). Duke’s is named after one of Hawaii’s most famous people, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. The Olympic Gold-Medalist swimmer and expert surfer was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming and Surfing Halls of Fame.

Duke’s is famous for its fresh seafood, so we started our meal with an order of the Crab & Macnut Wontons with a Mustard Plum Sauce – what incredible flavors!

Crab & Macnut Wontons - Appetizer at Duke's Malibu

We split two entrees (actually we asked for extra plates and they just split it for us at no extra charge). One was the Shrimp & Crab Louie, Duke’s version of a coastal favorite. It was very good, but the highlight of our meal was the Parmesan & Herb Crusted Opa, a house favorite (sautéed with panko, macadamia nuts, lemon and capers). Combined with a side of Duke’s deliciously seasoned crisp Sweet Potato Fries, the meal was perfection.

And for dessert, wait until you see Kimo’s Original Hula Pie (Macadamia Nut ice-cream served over Oreo cookie crust, topped with hot fudge and whipped cream) – plenty big enough to share, so be sure to ask for extra spoons.

Sure wish they had a Duke’s in San Francisco… maybe one day 🙂
