If you can take a break, don’t miss this historic event when the Beijing Olympic Torch makes its only North American stop in San Francisco next Wednesday afternoon (April 9th).
Opening ceremony takes place at McCovey Cove at 1pm.
The 6-mile route goes from McCovey Cove, along 3rd Street, down to Embarcadero, past Fisherman’s Wharf to Jefferson Street, then left on Hyde Street and up a short distance to Beach Street, then on to Polk Street near Aquatic Park. The next torch runner will head up Polk to Bay Street, then back to Embarcadero and stop in front of the Ferry Building at Justin Herman Plaza.
Note: Expect to see protesters (pro-Tibet activists condemning China’s human rights) along the route, at Union Square, Portsmouth Square, Civic Center and Washington Square.
