Top of the Rock - NYC
Top of the Rock Observation Deck
Top of the Rock Observation Deck sits high above Rockefeller Center (on the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza), in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The Observation Deck is surrounded by huge panels of clear safety glass, offering visitors an unobstructed open-air 360-degree view of New York City. It really is quite breathtaking, as you can see from the picture above.
What better place to see an amazing sunset or millions of glistening lights over the city. During one of our visits, we got to the top of the Observation Deck just before the sun was setting. It was surreal to see the city go from sunset to twilight and have the skyline light up before our eyes. NOTE: Sunset is the most popular and busiest time at the Top of the Rock, especially during the Summer months, so expect to wait in long lines.
2nd Level Open Air Views
Climb steps to a second-level area overlooking the main Observation Deck for even better open-air views (with no glass panels). This is the best place to take pictures. Views include a panorama of Central Park and the northern half of Manhattan that cannot be found anywhere else. Other famous city landmarks are visible as well, including the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Times Square, the Hudson River, the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty (in the distance). Top of the Rock makes you feel as if you’re on top of the world!
A Great Place to Propose
New York City is one of the most romantic cities in the world. If you’re looking for a memorable place to “pop the question,” you may want to consider Top of the Rock during sunset or after dark, under the twinkling stars. The views from 70 stories above the city are incredible – what better place to propose. 🙂
