And this time of year is especially beautiful. Harvest season or “crush” is in full swing (when the grapes are picked), usually late summer early fall (August-October
Napa and Sonoma are within close proximity to San Francisco. Both destinations make a Fun Wine-Tasting Day Tour or weekend getaway. Whether you’re a first-time visitor to the Bay Area, a local who loves wine-tasting, or entertaining out-of-town guests or clients, a Guided Wine Country Tour takes all the hassle out of planning where to go and how to get there – not to mention all the traffic, especially at this time of the year. And having a guide who is knowledgeable about San Francisco, Napa Valley, Sonoma, wineries and wines, is priceless.
Visit a mix of boutique and large-scale wineries, enjoy wine-tasting and learn how wines are made in California’s historic wine region. Tour stops on the Napa & Sonoma Wine Country Day Trip include the following wineries:
V. Sattui (Napa Valley)
Founded in 1885, the winery is surrounded by 2 1/2 acres of shaded picnic grounds in the heart of Napa Valley. It’s one of our favorite wineries. Taste award-winning wines and shop for souvenirs (love their Gift Store) and delicious cheeses at their Gourmet Cheese Shop & Deli. The winery is a fun place for a picnic.
Madonna Estate, Mt. St. John (Napa Valley)
Located in the world-renowned Carneros Region, the Bartolucci family has found success with their organically grown grapes and Estate Bottle wines, combining traditional and modern winemaking techniques.
Sutter Home (Napa Valley)
Established in the 1800s, Sutter Home (famous for creating White Zinfandel in the 1970s) is the second-largest independently-run family winery in the United States.
Sonoma Wine Country (Sonoma Valley)
You’re gonna love exploring the charming town of Sonoma. Enjoy “cheese-tasting” at Vella Cheese Factory and Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory. Sonoma Jack Cheeses produced at the Sonoma Cheese Factory include: Traditional, Pesto, Garlic, Habanero, Vidalia Onion, Portabella Mushroom, Hot Pepper, and Mediterranean Jack. Hard-Grating cheeses are called ParmaJack and Pepato Jack with peppercorns. They also make Creamy Jack and Cheddar. The Cheese Factory is a cheese-lovers paradise (it’s worth the trip to Sonoma alone). Bet you won’t go home empty-handed!
And for history buffs, the tour takes you to see General Vallejo’s historic home and buildings in Sonoma – it’s a California Historical Landmark.
