Angkor is one of Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological sites. Its vast temple complex is home to the world-famous ancient Temple of Angkor Wat, one of Cambodia’s most visited tourist destinations. The ancient Buddhist walled city of Angkor Thom, located just north of Angkor Wat, is another popular attraction. It houses Bayon Temple, famous for its massive stone-carved figures and faces.
Visitors are also drawn to Ta Prohm, one of Angkor’s largest ancient sites. The Buddhist temple ruins, surrounded by jungle, features stone carvings, towering trees and unique intertwining root formations. It was also the site of Angelina Joie’s 2001 movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.” Other popular attractions include: The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, Bayon Temple with its iconic stone carvings, Prasat Thom (a 98-ft-tall 7-tiered temple pyramid in the jungle), Sihanoukville beach resort and fun outdoor markets.
