Crissy Field - San Francisco
Crissy Field is our favorite place to walk by San Francisco Bay. Its stunning Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island and San Francisco Bay views makes Crissy Field one of the city’s most popular destinations. It’s nestled on the shoreline of San Francisco’s historic Presidio. And located to the southeast of the Golden Gate Bridge, between the Palace of Fine Arts and Fort Point. Crissy Field was named after Major Dana H. Crissy, a military aviator who lost his life in a 1919 cross-country aircraft flight. Crissy Field, along with the entire Presidio, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962.
Tourists and locals come here, especially on weekends and sunny days, to walk their dogs, jog and bicycle. It’s also a popular place to windsurf, swim, sunbathe, or just hang out and people-watch. Rent bikes at nearby Fort Mason and ride along the Marina. The restored 100-acre site of tidal marsh and parkland along the bay shore includes water birds, native plants, walking paths and sandy beaches.
Stop by The Warming Hut Parkstore & Cafe, located at the west end of Crissy Field, near the fishing pier. It features organic and locally grown food and beverages. There’s also a small store where you can buy merchandise that reflects its theme of environmental sustainability.
