Machu Picchu - Lost City of the Incas

Machu Picchu is nestled high in the Andes Mountains in Peru. The Lost City of the Incas is one of the most visited tourist destinations in South America. And it’s one of the world’s most iconic archeological sites. Built in the 15th century, the ancient ruins was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Consider hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu if you’re feeling adventurous and reasonably fit. Add about four days to your travel itinerary if you decide to go this route. Note: The Inca Trail is closed for the entire month of February every year. Alternatively, you can reach Machu Picchu by train from Cusco. Or stay overnight in one of the nearby towns and walk up to the ruins. Plan on spending at least one day at Machu Picchu to fully explore the area. If possible, try to schedule your trip to coincide with the sunrise or sunset. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!
