Marina Green - San Francisco
Located along San Francisco Bay, the Marina Green overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the sailboat-filled bay. The large grassy area, between Fort Mason and the Presidio, is surrounded by a jogging track and a walking path overlooking the Bay. It’s a popular destination with tourists and locals alike. Take a long leisurely walk along the Marina Green to Crissy Field, Crissy Field Beach and Fort Point. The views are spectacular, especially on a clear sunny day. People come here to picnic with their families, fly their kites, walk their dogs, exercise, jog, and bicycle. One end of the Marina Green (near Crissy Field and Crissy Field Beach) features a grassy volleyball area. It’s another popular hangout for sunbathers and people-watchers.
SF Fleet Week
The Marina Green is also one of the best viewing areas to see the U.S. Navy Blue Angels over San Francisco Bay during the annual Fleet Week Celebrations in October. San Francisco’s annual Fleet Week event features a Parade of U.S. Navy Ships, Survey Flights and Practice Air Shows, Blue Angels Air Shows, Ship Tours… and more! Arrive early because Fleet Week celebrations draw well over one million spectators. The picture below shows the Blue Angels flying over Angel Island and the sailboat-filled San Francisco Bay.
