The Presidio - San Francisco
The Presidio was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962. The 1,491-acre national park site is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation area. Rich with cultural history, the Presidio is also one of the most beautiful areas of San Francisco. It offers fabulous views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts. The area also has several picnic areas and a restaurant. Outdoor picnic events take place on the Main Parade Ground from April to October. Nearby Crissy Field is a great place to walk, jog or bike and enjoy stunning SF views.
Hiking & Biking Trails and Scenic Overlooks
The picturesque Presidio has over 24 hiking and biking trails. There are also eight scenic overlooks, located along the Presidio’s trail system, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, Angel Island and the Pacific Ocean. We love the views from Inspiration Point, located on the right side when driving into the Presidio on Arguello Blvd (after driving through the entrance gate). In addition, the Golden Gate Overlook, located off Lincoln Blvd, and the Pacific Overlook, both offer incredible views. Great for picture-taking!
Presidio Officers’ Club
Be sure to visit the Presidio Officers’ Club, San Francisco’s most historic building. It’s located at 50 Moraga Avenue, on the Main Post. Find out about the Presidio’s history, the Buffalo Soldiers, Army nurses, war veterans and how the Presidio was saved as a national park. Free admission to exhibits and programs. Guided Building Tours are offered weekly. Open Tuesday-Sunday.
Presidio Golf Course
Presidio Golf Course is one of the oldest on the West Coast – and one of the best public golf courses in the nation. The 18-hole course is located just inside the Presidio’s Arguello Gate. Famous golfers who have played there include: Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Schultz, Joe DiMaggio and Arnold Palmer. Open daily. Closed Christmas Eve (after 2pm) and Christmas Day.
The Walt Disney Family Museum
The Presidio is also home to the Walt Disney Family Museum. Allow plenty of time because there’s a lot to see. The fun family-friendly museum also houses an intimate Disney-themed theater featuring classic Disney movies.
