Keep the Party Going

Crossing another adventure off our bucket list, we couldn’t resist going to Jimmy Buffet’s all-star Tribute Concert at the historic Hollywood Bowl. After securing tickets, booking flights and arranging hotel accommodations, we met up with our LA friends for what promised to be an unforgettable night. Billed as “Keep the Party Going,” Jimmy’s eclectic blend of country, pop, folk, rock and Caribbean music set the tone for an electrifying evening.

The concert was a star-studded affair, featuring many of our favorite performers and surprise guest appearances that added to the excitement. We’ll get into that in a minute, but first, here’s a little history on this iconic outdoor amphitheater nestled in the heart of Los Angeles.

Hollywood Bowl History

Opened in 1922, the Hollywood Bowl was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, (Lloyd) and later renovated by Frank Gehry. As one of the world’s most renowned outdoor venues, the Hollywood Bowl features a unique architectural design with its iconic bandshell and expansive open-air seating. Its distinctive ambiance offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding picturesque Hollywood Hills. Throughout the decades, this legendary venue has hosted an illustrious array of artists, from classical maestro Leonard Bernstein and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, to the incomparable Bob Dylan and trailblazing rock legends such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Each performance has left an indelible mark on music history.

Jimmy Buffet All-Star Tribute Concert

The Jimmy Buffet All-Star Tribute Concert proved to be an unparalleled, whimsical, FUN, and utterly enchanting experience – a true highlight in our concert adventures. As dusk descended and nightfall embraced us, a crescent moon illuminated the sky from above. For such a massive amphitheater, we were surprised at the exceptional acoustics that filled the air. From the moment the concert started with the perennial favorite “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” to the stage-filled grand finale of “Margaritaville,” every moment was infused with nonstop entertainment and surprise guest appearances, each sharing heartfelt anecdotes and personal memories of Jimmy. He certainly had an eclectic group of friends. It was a wonderful way to celebrate his music and his legacy.

“Keep the Party Going” Performers

The lineup for the night was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an illustrious array of musical talents. From legendary icons like Paul McCartney and The Eagles to contemporary favorites such as Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile, and Kenny Chesney, the evening was a star-studded affair. Other notable acts included Zac Brown, Eric Church, Pitbull, Jackson Brown, Snoop Dogg, Jack Johnson, Dave Grohl, and Mac McAnally and the Coral Reefer Band.

Performers delivered unforgettable renditions of Jimmy Buffet’s beloved hits, from the infectious rhythm of “Cheeseburgers in Paradise” to the laid-back vibes of “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” and the soulful nostalgia of “Come Monday.” Crowd favorites like “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” “Down at the Lah De Dah,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” “Why Don’t We Get Drunk,” “Fins,” and the perennial “Margaritaville” had the audience singing along in unison. It was one BIG happy party!

One of our favorite acts was a captivating duet by Pitbull and Jon Bon Jovi singing “Thank God Jimmy Buffett.” Paul McCartney’s poignant performance of “Let It Be” (a song he shared with Jimmy during their final encounter, a week before Jimmy’s passing) resonated deeply with the audience, creating a moment of profound silence that spoke volumes about the impact of Jimmy’s music.

Surprise Guest Appearances

Special surprise guest appearances throughout the night included Harrison Ford, Jane Fonda, Woody Harrelson, Dolly Parton, Don Johnson, John McEnroe, Miami Heat coach Pat Riley, Will Arnott, and Dave Matthews. Each one told a funny, inspiring or touching story of their cherished moments with Jimmy over the years.

Margaritaville Finale

As the concert reached its climactic finale, a magical moment unfolded: performers and special guests alike converged on stage and belted out the timeless anthem, “Margaritaville.”

Keeping Jimmy’s Spirit Alive Throughout His Timeless Music

The entire event was planned to perfection with nearly four hours of uninterrupted entertainment. It was one of the most heartfelt gatherings we’ve ever experienced. Throughout the night, there was an undeniable sense of Jimmy’s spirit permeating the air. As the crowd joined in singing and dancing along to his timeless melodies, one couldn’t help but imagine Jimmy looking down with a smile, basking in the joy that his music continues to inspire.
