Medical and Recreational Marijuana
Medical marijuana was legalized in California in 1996 – it was the first state to legalize medical marijuana. More than 20 years later, in November 2017, Californian’s voted to legalize “recreational” marijuana. And on January 5, 2018 it became legal in the state of California. As a result of the legalization of marijuana in key U.S. states, fun new pot tours have sprung up around the country. It’s reminiscent of how the wine and microbrewery industries and specialty tours first got started.
Our 1st Pot Tour Experience
– Classic Cannabis Tour by Green Guide Tours in San Francisco
We recently had our first pot tour experience. We took a “Classic Cannabis Tour” – it’s the first sightseeing historical cannabis bus tour in America.
Tour starts at the Ferry Building in San Francisco – look for the black bus with the Green Guide Tours logo. During this fun interactive and educational sightseeing tour, owner and friendly tour guide Stuart, filled us in on the history and culture of San Francisco and cannabis – he’s a wealth of information! We learned a ton about SF’s historic Barbary Coast, California Gold Rush and the cannabis industry – from the science and strains (Sativa vs Indica vs Hybrid, CBD vs THC) to prohibition and legalization of medical and recreational marijuana.
San Francisco’s Summer of Love and Hippie Revolution
Along the way, see famous city landmarks and historic neighborhoods including Chinatown, the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Alamo Square’s Painted Ladies and Haight Ashbury. As big music fans, one of the highlights for us was driving past the Queen Anne Victorian houses where The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin once lived during San Francisco’s “Summer of Love” hippie revolution in 1967.
Visit Top San Francisco Dispensaries and Marijuana Lounges
Visit three top SF dispensaries and get special access to two marijuana smoking lounges – yes, you can shop and buy anything from medicinal CBD balms, oils and teas to a variety of vape pens and edibles, including chocolates, gummies and cookies. One of the best parts of the tour for us was having Stuart join us in the dispensaries and highlighting many of the pot products available for purchase at the store. Don’t forget your photo ID (driver’s license or passport) – you’ll need it for entry into the dispensaries and any purchases you may make.
If you’re lucky enough to get Stuart as your tour guide, you’re in for a treat! Say hi from Alana and Barry 🙂
Note: Tours run Saturday and Sunday 11am-3pm. Buses seat up to 10 people. Snacks, beverages and water are provided. Lunch stop at your own expense. No pot samples are offered or provided on the tour. Must be 21 to go into the dispensaries. Visit Green Guide Tours to book your Classic Cannabis Tour.
