Get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco and Silicon Valley and take a drive out to Half Moon Bay. There are some great little restaurants and cafes dotted along downtown Half Moon Bay, Princeton-on-the-Sea and along the coast. If you like fresh seafood in a casual setting, at reasonable prices, check out the Flying Fish Grill. We can’t tell you how many times we passed by on our way to the beach or Main Street. Every time we said the same thing – “we must try that place sometime.” Wish we hadn’t waited so long!
Look for the Flying Fish Grill sign at the corner of Main Street and Hwy 92. There’s a fish market and produce store next door. The small restaurant has a festive casual island atmosphere. We always feel like we’re back in the Caribbean when we eat there. We prefer eating outside under the straw umbrella tables, especially during warmer weather.
“OK… what makes this place so special” you might ask? Great seafood at reasonable prices. We really like their Crabby Cheese Bread appetizer. What could be better than garlic cheese bread topped with fresh crab… yum!! Clam Chowder is good too. Incredible Fish Tacos. Ditto the Fish & Chips. Their Seafood Wrapps are big and flavorful. The Pacific Wrapp is one of our favorites – grilled salmon, avocado, ginger slaw, herb rice, scallions, sesame seeds and soy-wasabi sauce in a spinach tortilla. And they’re huge. So go with an appetite!
Have you eaten there yet? What do you think? Food recommendations anyone?
Maybe we’ll see you there. I’m getting a craving for that delicious Crabby Cheese Bread!
