Ahhhh… Christmas in New York. There aren’t too many places in the world that conjure up that special magic as New York City during the Holiday Season.
Get in the festive mood by taking a FUN early-evening tour of Manhattan’s glittering holiday-season lights on the New York City “Holiday Lights” Tour – there’s no better time to tour the illuminated city than during the Christmas Holidays!
This year, there’s a NEW Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show, “The Rockettes Magical Journey” featuring the world-famous Rockettes. The show starts November 11, 2011 and runs thru’ January 2, 2012. And of course, there are plenty of fabulous Broadway (and off-Broadway) shows to keep you and your family happy for the entire Holiday Season.
Visit Rockefeller Center and see the world’s most famous Christmas Tree. This year’s tree lighting takes place on Wednesday, November 30th at approximately 8:55pm. Following the lighting, the tree will be lit daily at 5:30am-11:30pm, Christmas Day (all day/24 hours), and New Year’s Eve at 5:30am-9pm.
Have FUN – go skating at Rockefeller Center’s Ice-Skating Rink, visited by over half a million people every year. During winter months, the famous sunken plaza is filled with ice-skaters from around the world. We like watching from above – it’s a great place to hang-out and people watch.
While you’re in the area, check out the “Top of the Rock” Observation Deck atop Rockefeller Center – 70 floors up! The views of the NYC skyline are absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset and after dark (see pic above). And if you’re thinking of popping the question, this is a great place to do it. We get asked all the time about where to go in New York to propose – a few venues come to mind, including the top of the Empire State Building and during a romantic Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride through Central Park.
Want to see scaled replicas of historic New York City landmarks (Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, Lady Liberty, the original Yankees Stadium, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Radio City Music Hall, Guggenheim Museum) all in one place? Head over to the annual “Holiday Train Show” at The New York Botanical Garden.
There’s nothing like Shopping in New York City! And the Holiday Season is so much FUN. Don’t miss the annual window displays along Fifth Avenue, especially those at Macy’s, Saks and Lord & Taylor – they’re spectacular!
If you’re a foodie who enjoys culture, walking and shopping, bundle up warm and take a fun food-tasting and walking tour – Foods of New York Tours offer five unique tours including: Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Chelsea Market/Meatpacking District, Central Village/SoHo and Nolita/NoHo. We’ve taken their Greenwich Village and Chinatown tours and can’t wait to try the others! It’s a GREAT way to learn about different areas of the city – not to mention eating and walking your way through NYC!
And while we’re on the subject of eating, be sure to stop by one of NYC’s famous delis – there’s nothing like an authentic NY pastrami on rye and a slice (or two) of cheesecake!
What are some of your favorite things to do during the Holiday Season in New York?
