Craving Lobster or Dungeness Crab? Head over to the New England Lobster Market & Eatery located in Burlingame, California, near San Francisco International airport. They fly fresh Maine Lobsters in daily. Dining al fresco at this casual-style New England eatery is reminiscent of a wonderful lunch we enjoyed at Freeport on the South Shore of Long Island. The only thing missing is a water view, but the food more than makes up for it.
East Coast Meets California at New England Lobster Market & Eatery
Feast on what we think are the best and freshest Lobster Rolls in the San Francisco Bay Area. The only place that comes close to this is Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, but we like these even better! Stuffed with big chunks of fresh lobster, the tasty rolls come with crispy light chips (thinly-sliced Kennebec potatoes flavored with seasoned salt) and a deliciously light coleslaw, sweetened with cranberries. It’s the best I’ve eaten since my mom’s homemade version.
Lobster Corn Chowder (creamy broth with chucks of lobster meat and corn) is also excellent. It comes with bread for dipping – soooo good! And the Lobster Tacos are incredible. Served three to-a-plate on homemade tortillas with lemon aioli, TJs chips and a side of coleslaw. Who knew tacos could taste so good!
Fresh Dungeness Crab is another specialty here, so if lobster isn’t your thing, try the tasty Crab Sandwiches and Crab Nachos. Lobster and Crab Salads are also available for healthier appetites. We’ll have to go back and try a salad next time. We just can’t seem to pass up the Lobster Rolls and Lobster Tacos.
Maine Lobster Platters feature 1 1/4 lb., 1 1/2 lb. and 2-lb. Lobsters; Dungeness Crab Platter offers whole 1 1/2-2-lb. Crabs. And if your kids haven’t acquired a taste for crab or lobster yet, they can enjoy a Grilled Cheese Roll or a Hot Dog. Soft drinks, beer (Sam Adams, Sam Light & Anchor Steam) and house red and white wine are also available.
The front of the restaurant has outdoor patio seating with umbrella-covered picnic tables. Diners place their order at the counter and take a number back to their table where meals are delivered. Inside, the spacious dining room features a Market and two huge tanks filled with live lobsters and crabs where diners and walk-ins can pick-up a Lobster or Crab-to-go.
Lobsters are available year-round (from Maine and the East Coast of Canada). When crab season is over in the SF Bay Area, the Market offers crab from Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Canada. Wild Shrimp, Farmed Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, Oysters, Scallops, and Calamari are also available for purchase.
Did you know that ounce-for-ounce, lobster is actually lower in calories and fat than skinless chicken breast. And for those watching their cholesterol, it’s comparable to chicken breast. I don’t know about you, but we’ll take lobster any day over chicken – now if only they were both the same price!
