UPDATE: Joe’s Cable Car Restaurant has Closed Permanently after 49 Years in San Francisco
Opened in 1965, Joe’s Cable Car Restaurant was one of San Francisco’s most popular burger places. Sadly, Joe’s closed its doors in March 2014, after 49 successful years. Truly an end of an era. Read our January 2014 review below:
Yes, I’m stuffing my face! Hamburgers and Fries are my favorite food and we’re always on a quest to find the perfect burger. There are so many great burger places in San Francisco and the Bay Area, it’s been hard to narrow it down to our favorite. We found out about Joe’s Cable Car Restaurant after watching Guy Fieri (from the Food Network TV Show “Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives” – love that show) rave about the burgers. We couldn’t agree with him more – they’re soooooo good!
Joe’s Cable Car Restaurant is located in the Mission District. It’s not the sort of place that you just stumble upon when you’re out and about in San Francisco. You have to know where you’re going to find it… but when you do, it’s well worth the trip! Owner Joe, grinds his fresh ground chuck daily – you can really taste the freshness of the meat. Burgers come in three sizes – 4oz, 6oz and 8 oz. Skinny Fries and thick Onion Rings are deliciously crisp and tasty. Either one is a perfect complement to the burger – we like ’em both! Don’t even think about counting calories… just enjoy!
And wait until you taste their milkshakes – it’s the BEST Chocolate Banana Malted Milkshake (made with Bud’s famous San Francisco ice-cream) that we’ve ever tasted. As Rachel Ray would say… “YUM-O!”
So… what’s your favorite San Francisco hamburger place – and why? Because when it comes to burgers, we want to know!
