After traveling 6,000 miles from San Francisco, CA we couldn’t wait to enjoy a relaxing and romantic weekend getaway in Bath. Traveling by train, the picturesque city of Bath is only a 90-minute journey from London’s Paddington Station. It’s an easy trip to make if you’re visiting London and want to escape to England’s beautiful countryside for a few days.
Bath is famous for its magnificent 18th century Georgian architecture and its ancient Roman Baths. It’s also considered to be the most romantic city in the UK – and after our last visit there, we couldn’t agree more!
The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa
Understated elegance best describes the iconic five-star luxury Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa. The hotel is a part of Bath’s famous Royal Crescent, a curved-shaped row of 30 terraced townhouses built between 1767 and 1775 – and one of the country’s greatest examples of Georgian architecture.
Inconspicuously situated in the center of the Royal Crescent (at No. 16), and nestled on one acre of stunning gardens, the swanky hotel offers guests a variety of comfy and elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites.
John Wood Suite
We had the pleasure of staying in the elegant John Wood Suite (pictured below) overlooking the beautiful Crescent Lawn and the city of Bath. A bit of trivia… John Wood Sr built The Circus and John Wood Jr built the Crescent – both famous rounded landmarks and two of Bath’s major attractions.
In addition to the spectacular view, the highlight of our spacious suite was the amazing four-poster bed… it was heavenly! We hadn’t slept in one since our wedding night in Ruislip, Middlesex (UK). Wish we could have taken it back home with us to San Francisco 🙂
One of the best things about staying at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is its great location. It’s close to Bath’s town center (about a 15-minute walk), so we had plenty of time to spend the day sightseeing and make it back to the hotel in time to relax in the spa before dinner.
Relax & Rejuvenate at The Spa & Bath House
The Royal Crescent Hotel is the ultimate spa destination. We couldn’t wait to check out The Spa & Bath House and pamper ourselves after a tiring day in the city.
Relaxation Pool – Vitality Pool – Sauna & Steam Room
We started with a rejuvenating dip in the indoor Relaxation Pool (pictured above) and could have stayed floating in it all night long – sheer bliss! Then we rotated our time between the Vitality Pool (with jacuzzi massage jets), the healing Himalayan Salt Infused Sauna and the soothing Blossom Steam Inhalation Room (pictured below) before returning to the relaxing infinity pool – loved them all! And no surprise to us, later that night we had the best night’s sleep. There are also private rooms for spa treatments, a beautiful serene Spa Garden and a fitness room. And if you like to meditate, the tranquil garden is a perfect setting to be still and mindful.
Dower House Restaurant – Fun for Foodies!
Foodies will love dining at the hotel’s award-winning Dower House Restaurant (which is open to the public). Popular with hotel guests, locals and tourists alike, the food and service is incredible.
Breakfast
Our first morning, we both couldn’t resist ordering a full English breakfast – and it was delicious. I grew up in London before moving to San Francisco, so I’m always yearning for a good old “British fry-up” – and this was a real treat! Ditto the Eggs Benedict the next morning 🙂
Afternoon Tea
Enjoy a delicious Afternoon tea (champagne, assorted teas, finger sandwiches, cakes, savories, scones and buns) served daily at The Dower House Restaurant – or weather-permitting, outside in their beautiful Tea Garden between 1:30pm and 6pm. There are three sittings available every day at 1:30pm, 3pm and 4:30pm.
Montagu Bar & Champagne Lounge
Start the evening with a pre-dinner glass of champagne or a cocktail in The Montagu Bar & Champagne Lounge, located just off the main restaurant.
Dinner
Our Dinner at The Dower House Restaurant was incredible – paired with a fine wine, each course was a feast for our palettes. Check out some of our mouth-watering pictures below. If you’re dining at the restaurant, be sure to say “hi” to Eduardo and Luke!
The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa lived up to all our expectations… and more! First-class accommodations, incredible food, friendly and efficient service – we can’t wait to go back again one day. It’s a great place for family reunions, weddings, anniversaries, special celebrations and corporate events. Mid-May to mid-October is peak season, so be sure to book well in advance during this busy time.
