Ah…. New York City. There’s nowhere in the world quite like it! There’s so much to do and see in NYC, it can be a little overwhelming, especially if it’s your first visit or two. We get calls from around the world asking for our recommendations on Fun Things To Do, Free Stuff, Fun Restaurants, Shopping, Sightseeing Tours … even “where to propose.” So we’ve put together a brief description of some of our favorite Things To Do when visiting New York City.
Times Square is one of our favorite places to visit whenever we go back to New York. The new Pedestrian Plaza is wonderful. Several sections of Times Square are closed off to traffic – all year round. Little tables and chairs are dotted about the area (and permanent bleacher seats too) so it’s a perfect place for grabbing a cup of coffee and hanging out. And you can’t beat the people-watching!
Central Park is another favorite of locals and tourists alike. In the Summer, we especially like Central Park Lake. Rent a rowboat and take your honey out on the lake for a romantic afternoon. Bike and kayak rentals are also available. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the grass overlooking Belvedere Castle. See a Free “Shakespeare in the Park” show under the stars.
“Hop-On Hop-Off “Double Decker Bus Tours are a FUN way to see New York’s top attractions. We usually do this in every city we visit. It’s a great way to see all the sights when you first arrive. Just hop-on-and-off at your leisure or stay on the bus for the whole ride. Then go back to the places you want to spend more time visiting.
Visit the famous Statue of Liberty. Get a bird’s eye view of Manhattan atop the Empire State Building or at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center. The open-air 360-degree views from 70 stories above the city are absolutely breathtaking!
New York is a fun walking city. Take a Guided Walking Tour or a Private New York Walking Tour with your own personal photographer! Greenwich Village and Chinatown are also fun areas to explore on foot. Both places are filled with little restaurants, cafes and specialty shops. Wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the people-watching!
And of course no visit to New York City would be complete without seeing at least one Broadway Show. Whatever you do, have FUN!
